Biography

Dr. Muhammed Salim J. is a distinguished Professor and Head of the Department of General Surgery with over 24 years of clinical, academic, and teaching experience, including 13 years of teaching experience in Government Medical Colleges under the Department of Medical Education, Kerala. He is a highly accomplished Senior Consultant in General and Minimal Access (Laparoscopic) Surgery, recognized for his expertise in advanced surgical care, medical education, and academic leadership.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Muhammed Salim has served in multiple teaching hospitals across Kerala under the Department of Medical Education, holding various faculty positions over nearly 25 years. His extensive academic experience has enabled him to mentor generations of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students while contributing significantly to the advancement of surgical education.

In addition to his academic career, Dr. Salim has over six years of experience as a Senior Consultant in General and Minimal Access (Laparoscopic) Surgery at KIMS Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, a leading tertiary care centre accredited by both the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) and the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH). During his tenure, he managed a broad spectrum of complex surgical cases and provided advanced minimally invasive surgical care to both Indian and international patients.

His areas of expertise include general surgery, laparoscopic (minimal access) surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, hernia surgery, gallbladder surgery, colorectal procedures, emergency surgery, and the management of complex surgical disorders. He is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care using advanced surgical techniques that promote faster recovery and improved clinical outcomes.

A dedicated academician, Dr. Muhammed Salim has served as an Internal and External Examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate medical examinations, assessing both theory and practical examinations at various universities and medical institutions. Since attaining the rank of Associate Professor, he has been actively involved in the evaluation and mentoring of medical students and postgraduate trainees, making significant contributions to maintaining high standards in surgical education.
