Infectious Diseases

The Department of Infectious Diseases provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for the diagnosis and management of a wide spectrum of infections. Our expertise includes the treatment of complex infections in post-transplant and immunosuppressed patients, as well as complicated bacterial, viral, parasitic, and fungal diseases.

The department also provides comprehensive evaluation and evidence-based management of fever of unknown origin, utilising a multidisciplinary approach and advanced diagnostic modalities to identify uncommon and challenging infectious etiologies. We also specialise in managing extrapulmonary tuberculosis, HIV, sepsis, community-acquired and nosocomial
infections and tropical infections such as dengue, leptospirosis, malaria and enteric fever.

The department is committed to preventive care through expert guidance on adult vaccinations, prophylaxis, and immunisation for both national and international travel.

We actively promote the judicious use of antibiotics across inpatient and outpatient settings through a robust antimicrobial stewardship program, ensuring optimal patient outcomes while minimising resistance.

In addition, the department plays a vital role in hospital infection control at Travancore Medical College Hospital, including surveillance, policy implementation, and staff training, to maintain the highest standards of patient safety.
