Biography

Dr. Affin Abdul Salam, MBBS, MS, DLS, FMAS, FIAGES, is a distinguished Professor and Senior Consultant in the Department of General Surgery with over 13 years of clinical experience. He is widely recognized for his expertise in general surgery, inguinal (hernia) surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and podiatric surgery, combining advanced surgical techniques with compassionate, patient-centered care.

Dr. Affin has extensive experience in performing a broad spectrum of general surgical procedures, including the management of hernias, gastrointestinal disorders, soft tissue conditions, anorectal diseases, and diabetic foot and podiatric conditions. His special interests include inguinal surgery, minimal access (laparoscopic) surgery, and comprehensive podiatric care, providing evidence-based treatment that promotes faster recovery and improved patient outcomes.

Currently serving as Professor and Senior Consultant, Dr. Affin also holds the responsibility of UG and PG Academic Coordinator for the Department of General Surgery, where he plays a key role in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He is actively involved in curriculum development, clinical teaching, and mentoring future surgeons, fostering a culture of academic excellence and evidence-based practice.

Dr. Affin is the Head of the Podiatry Clinic at Travancore Medical College Hospital, where he leads specialized services for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of foot disorders, particularly those related to diabetes and other complex medical conditions.

Throughout his career, Dr. Affin has successfully managed numerous complex surgical cases across various healthcare institutions. He is known for his meticulous clinical assessment, accurate diagnosis, and empathetic approach to patient care. In addition to his clinical work, he has actively participated in research, scientific workshops, and academic conferences, with multiple publications in the field of General Surgery.
