Biography

Dr. Joseph Williams is an experienced ENT and Head & Neck Surgeon with specialized expertise in the management of benign and malignant disorders of the head and neck. He has served as a Consultant in the Department of ENT and previously worked as a Junior Consultant in the Department of ENT and Head & Neck Surgery at Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, Chennai, a tertiary referral centre providing comprehensive elective and emergency care.

During his tenure at Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, Dr. Joseph gained extensive exposure to complex head and neck oncology cases, with particular experience in the surgical management of benign and malignant tumours involving the oral cavity, thyroid, salivary glands, and other head and neck structures. His surgical experience includes parotidectomy, thyroidectomy, excision of malignancies of the buccal mucosa and tongue, salivary gland surgery, neck dissection, and reconstructive procedures.

As part of the microvascular reconstruction team, he was involved in postoperative reconstruction using free flaps and locoregional flaps, which formed an integral part of the management of complex head and neck cancer surgeries. Alongside head and neck oncology, he has also gained experience in routine ENT procedures, including endoscopic sinus surgery and skull base surgery.

His experience at Apollo Proton Cancer Centre strengthened his commitment to patient-centred care and helped him develop a meticulous and individualized approach to complex surgical conditions. He has particular interest in combining endoscopic and open surgical approaches for oral cavity cancers, with the aim of achieving effective oncological clearance while minimizing surgical morbidity.

Recognizing the importance of functional and aesthetic outcomes, Dr. Joseph also places emphasis on surgical approaches that minimize visible scarring whenever clinically appropriate. His experience with alternative approaches, including posterior approaches instead of traditional lip-split approaches in selected oral cavity surgeries, reflects his commitment to balancing oncological safety with patient comfort, function, and quality of life.
