Biography

Dr Sheelamoni A is a highly skilled and experienced OBG with over 43 years of clinical experience in managing complex obstetric and gynaecological cases. Her expertise spans advanced medical management as well as open and laparoscopic surgical procedures. She is currently serving as Professor Emeritus at Travancore Medicity. Before joining Travancore Medicity, she worked in various government medical colleges in Kerala, including Trivandrum, Kottayam, Thrissur, and Alappuzha for nearly 20 years. She also served as a consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with the Ministry of Health, Abu Dhabi, for 6 years. She retired as professor and head of the department from the Government Medical College, Alapuzha in 2008 and subsequently joined Travancore Medical College as professor the same year. After 15 years of service, she retired in 2023 and has since continued her association with Travancore Medicity as a professor.

Free Medical Camp and Cancer Awareness Session was successfully conducted on 19^TH may 2026, at MNUP School, Nedumpaikulam. The event was jointly organised by the Nedumpaikulam Pourasamithy and Travancore Medicity.

As part of the camp, an insightful cancer awareness class was led by Dr Sameer S, Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist, Travancore Institute for Cancer Care. Many people from the locality attended the camp and received free expert medical consultations.

In observance of World Lupus Day, a vibrant awareness program was organised to spread education about this chronic autoimmune condition. The event kicked off with an energetic flash mob performed by our team in the hospital lobby, successfully drawing the attention of visitors and patients to the cause. Following the performance, Dr Aswin M. Nair (Department of Rheumatology) delivered an insightful speech, emphasising the crucial importance of early diagnosis, recognising symptoms, and the advanced treatment options available to help patients lead fulfilling lives. The program concluded successfully, reaffirming our commitment to community health and patient empowerment.

The Association of Otorhinolaryngologists of India, Kollam Chapter, in association with Travancore Medical College Hospital, successfully conducted the Kerala State Midterm AOICON 2026 Hands-on Workshop on Skin Prick Test and Bronchoscopy on 9th May 2026 at the hospital campus. The program was organised with the objective of enhancing clinical practice skills and promoting academic interaction among healthcare professionals, while fostering meaningful professional connections in an engaging learning environment.

In observance of International Nurses Day, we celebrated the incredible dedication and compassion of our nursing team. The day was marked by a special gathering to recognize their unwavering commitment to patient care. The Chief Nursing Officer was honored during the event, and we also recognized those who have completed over 15 years of service with us. These veterans are the pillars of our institution, and we are profoundly grateful for their decade-plus journey of excellence and the many lives they have touched. In observance of World Hand Hygiene Day, the Hospital Infection Prevention Control (HIPC) Department conducted an extensive awareness campaign across all Wards, OPs, and ICUs. The initiative focused on empowering healthcare staff and caregivers with standardised hand hygiene protocols to effectively combat healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Complementing this bedside training, Dr Nirmal Babu, Consultant, Department of Infectious Diseases, led an insightful CME session on advanced infection control practices. Together, these efforts underscore our unwavering commitment to patient safety and the maintenance of a sterile, world-class healing environment.

This state-of-the art medical imaging technology plays a crucial role in detecting cancer cells at their earliest stages, enabling timely diagnosis and significantly improving treatment outcomes. With this advanced system now available in Kollam, patients can access highly precise and efficient diagnostic services closer to home. The facility was officially inaugurated by the Honourable Minister for Finance, Government of Kerala, Sri. K. N. Balagopal. This milestone marks a major step forward in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region, helping doctors identify diseases faster and plan more effective, personalised treatments. The introduction of PET Scan technology represents not just a technological upgrade, but a new ray of hope for patients and families — opening doors to early detection, better clinical decisions, and improved survival rates. A truly historic moment, bringing cutting-edge healthcare and new possibilities to the people of Kollam.

As part of the World Kidney Day celebration, the Department of Nephrology organised a poster competition along with a special program at the Second Floor Auditorium. The event aimed to promote awareness about kidney health, early detection, and preventive care among the public and the healthcare community. The program was graced by the Honourable MLA, Sri. M. Noushad, as the Chief Guest. Honourable Chairman Sri. A. A. Salam and Secretary Sri. Abdul Salam was also present on the occasion, adding significance to the event. Rainbow 2026 – Heart of the Matter Paediatrics Cardiology Imaging workshop was organized by the Department of Pediatrics on 22 February 2026 at Travancore Medicity under the IAP Kerala Presidential Action Plan. The workshop aimed to enhance awareness and knowledge in pediatric cardiac care through interactive sessions for healthcare professionals.Dr.Zulfikar Ahamed consultant Cardiologist KIMS TRIVANDRUM and Dr. Jayakrishnan pediatrics cardiologist SAT TVM were the speakers.

A comprehensive BLS & ACLS Training Program was conducted from 19–21 February 2026 at Travancore Medicity in association with the Indian Institute of Emergency Medical Services, strictly adhering to the latest guidelines of the American Heart Association. Consultants, postgraduates, clinical pharmacists, and nursing professionals actively participated in skill stations that covered high-quality CPR, advanced airway management, defibrillation techniques, team dynamics during resuscitation, and systematic emergency assessment. The training significantly enhanced the preparedness, coordination, and clinical competence of healthcare professionals, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to delivering timely, evidence-based emergency care and improving patient survival outcomes.
